Countertops & Islands

A thoughtfully designed kitchen island anchors the modern open layout. We fabricate and install durable quartz, natural granite, and honed marble countertops, engineering expansive central islands equipped with breakfast bar seating, discreet electrical outlets, secondary prep sinks, and wine storage.

Kitchen countertops and islands in Dunwoody

A well-planned island is what makes an open kitchen work: prep space, seating and storage in one piece. In many Dunwoody homes there is no room for one until the wall to the breakfast nook or family room comes out, which is why islands and layout changes so often go together.

We plan islands around clearances first, typically about 42 inches of walkway and 48 inches where two people cook, then add what you need: a prep sink, outlets, deep pot drawers, a microwave drawer or seating with a proper overhang.

For surfaces we fabricate and install quartz, quartzite, granite and marble, with edge details from eased to mitered waterfall ends and full-height slab backsplashes.

Countertop and island work

  • Quartz, quartzite, granite and marble countertops
  • Waterfall islands and mitered edges
  • Islands with prep sinks, outlets and seating
  • Undermount sinks and slab or tile backsplashes
  • Countertop replacement on existing cabinets

Common questions

Quartz or quartzite?

Quartz is engineered, non-porous and needs no sealing. Quartzite is natural, very hard and unique slab to slab, and should be sealed.

How much space do I need for an island?

Plan the island size plus about 42 inches of walkway on each working side, and around 24 inches of width per stool.

Typical Atlanta-area range

From about $28,000

Surface-only updates (new counters, backsplash, sink) start around $28,000 as part of a minor remodel; a new island with plumbing and electrical usually puts the project in the $45,000 to $80,000 range. Typical Atlanta-area ranges, not quotes.
